Rock chipping in Central Texas

Hill Country ground is often more rock than soil. Rock chipping grinds surface limestone and caliche in place into a level bed you can seed, drive on or build from, with nothing to haul away.

What we do

Turn rock into usable ground

A rock chipper, also called a rock tiller or rock grinder, is a heavy drum of carbide teeth that chews into limestone ledges and caliche and leaves a fine, level mix of crushed rock and soil behind.

It is how a rocky slope becomes a food plot, a lumpy pasture becomes mowable, or a ledge becomes a pad and driveway base, without breaking rock by hand or trucking it off the property.

FAQ

Rock Chipping questions

How deep can you grind?

It depends on the rock and the attachment, but typically a few inches up to roughly six to eight inches in a pass. We test a strip before we quote on hard ledge.

Can I seed right after?

Yes. A chipped bed is a good seedbed for native grasses and food plot mixes, ideally before a rain in spring or fall.

Is this the same as rock crushing?

No. Crushing usually means hauling rock to a crusher. Chipping works in place, so the rock stays on your land as part of the new surface.

Do you clear the brush first?

If brush is in the way we mulch it first, then chip. Both can be quoted together.
